General questions
If you are new to Compare Tacticians, start here. These questions cover the basics of how our platform works and what you can expect.
Yes, absolutely. Individual consumers can run unlimited comparisons across all six of our service categories — energy, insurance, telecommunications, financial planning, logistics and business software — without paying a cent. You can also download PDF comparison reports and contact our support team by email at no charge. We fund the free tier through optional Professional and Enterprise subscriptions that businesses purchase for advanced features like API access, bulk uploads and white-label reporting.
Our revenue comes from two sources. First, our paid subscription plans (Professional at $49 per month and custom-priced Enterprise) offer deeper analytics, more frequent data refreshes and integration capabilities that businesses find valuable. Second, some providers pay a flat listing fee to have their details included in our database — but this fee never influences ranking order. We disclose all commercial relationships transparently, and our default sorting algorithm is driven entirely by user-defined criteria such as price, coverage and customer ratings.
We cover all states and territories. However, availability of specific providers varies by region — for example, some energy retailers only operate in certain states. When you enter your postcode during a comparison, our engine automatically filters out providers that do not service your area, so you only see results that are genuinely available to you. For logistics comparisons, we support both domestic and international shipping routes originating from Australia.
For free-tier users, data is refreshed at least once per week. Professional subscribers receive daily updates, and Enterprise clients can access near-real-time data through our API. Each data point in our system is timestamped so you can see exactly when it was last verified. If a provider changes their pricing or plan structure between refresh cycles, we aim to reflect the update within 48 hours of becoming aware of it.
We have designed our ranking algorithm to be entirely transparent. By default, results are sorted by the criteria you select — whether that is lowest price, broadest coverage, highest customer rating or a weighted combination. We never accept pay-for-position arrangements. If a provider has a commercial relationship with us (such as a listing fee), that fact is clearly labelled next to their entry. We also publish our ranking methodology documentation on request so that anyone can audit how results are generated.
Data and privacy questions
We take your privacy seriously. Here are answers to the most common questions about how we handle your personal information and comparison data.
When you run a comparison, we collect the criteria you enter (such as postcode, household size and usage patterns) to generate results. This data is stored in an anonymised, aggregated form for analytics purposes and is never linked to your identity unless you create an account. If you submit a contact form, we collect your name, email address and message content solely to respond to your enquiry. We do not sell personal data to third parties under any circumstances.
Yes, we use a small number of cookies. Essential cookies keep the site functioning properly — for example, remembering that you have dismissed the cookie-consent banner. Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors navigate the site so we can improve the user experience. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings at any time, and the site will continue to function with only essential cookies enabled.
Absolutely. If you would like us to delete any personal data we hold about you, simply send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Data deletion request". We will process your request within 30 days and confirm once the deletion is complete. If you have a registered account, deleting it will also remove all associated comparison history and saved reports from our systems.
Our primary infrastructure is hosted in Australian data centres operated by a major cloud provider. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We do not transfer personal data outside of Australia unless explicitly required to fulfil a service request — for example, if you compare international shipping rates, anonymised route data may be processed by an overseas logistics API. In such cases, we ensure the third party meets equivalent data-protection standards.
Account and billing questions
Questions about subscriptions, trials and account management? You will find the answers here.
Yes. We offer a 14-day free trial of the Professional plan with no credit card required. During the trial you have full access to daily data refreshes, bulk CSV uploads, custom weighting profiles and priority support. At the end of the trial you can choose to subscribe or simply continue using the free tier — there is no automatic billing and no obligation.
Yes, both the Professional and Enterprise plans can be cancelled at any time with no exit fees. When you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free tier and you retain access to any comparison reports you downloaded during your subscription. We do not delete your account data upon cancellation — you can resubscribe later and pick up where you left off.
We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit and debit cards, as well as direct debit from Australian bank accounts. Enterprise clients can also pay by invoice with 30-day payment terms. All payments are processed securely through a PCI-DSS-compliant payment gateway, and we never store full card numbers on our servers.
Free-tier users can reach our support team by email at [email protected]. We aim to respond within one business day. Professional subscribers also have access to priority phone support on +61 2 4907 1124 during business hours (9 am – 5 pm AEST, Monday to Friday). Enterprise clients are assigned a dedicated account manager who is available via direct line and video call.
